How Desolate Lie Our Borders – A Tisha B’Av Vigil for Immigrant Justice

August 11 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

A coalition of Jewish and local immigrant justice organizations invite you to a special vigil to acknowledge the immense human tragedy currently unfolding at our southern border, through the lens and rituals of Tisha b’Av.

This Tisha b’Av we’ll mourn the brokenness of a nation that hunts down, detains and deports immigrants, separates families, cages children and turns away asylum seekers. We will also explore our communal culpability in this tragedy and ask honestly: how do we stand down this causeless hatred? Tisha B’Av (the ninth of the Hebrew month of Av) is a Jewish fast day that honors and mourns the brokenness, loss, and shattered ideals in whose shadow we live every day, symbolized by the destruction of Jerusalem 2,000 years ago.

Our vigil will include selections from Eikha (the Biblical Book of Lamentations) alongside contemporary reflections, immigrant testimony, poetry song and calls to action. See more information on the Facebook event.
